STATEMENT: BETTER PA SUPPORTS WOLF ADMINISTRATION LAWSUIT AGAINST GOP GENERAL ASSEMBLY REGARDING CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS
HARRISBURG (July 28, 2022) – Better PA Acting Executive Director Jan Jarrett made the following statement today after the Wolf Administration filed a lawsuit against the Republican-led General Assembly regarding SB106, a joint resolution with multiple, unrelated constitutional amendments passed this session:
"We applaud the effort by Governor Wolf to hold the legislature accountable for making a mockery of the sacred process of amending our state constitution. Pennsylvania's Founding Fathers would find abhorrent the opaque process by which this General Assembly has decided to scribble on the state constitution in an effort to avoid the checks and balances of a functioning state government. To appease the far right-wing of their party, Republican leadership carelessly loaded up a bill with dangerous proposed amendments, and we look forward to the state Supreme Court holding them accountable by invalidating the process they undertook.
"GOP leadership is disrespecting the constitution and disregarding the rights and powers of their constituents by corrupting the constitutional process under the cover of darkness. They should be ashamed."
