STATEMENT: Better PA Applauds Governor-Elect Josh Shapiro, Other Important Election Victories for Working Families in the Commonwealth
HARRISBURG (November 10, 2022) – Jan Jarrett, Executive Director of Better Pennsylvania, the following statement regarding the results of Tuesday’s election in Pennsylvania:
“From the top of the ticket on down, Pennsylvania voters sent a clear message this election – extremism in our politics is unacceptable.
“In a challenging political environment, Democratic candidates clearly communicated an ambitious yet pragmatic vision for a Pennsylvania where workers earn enough to make ends meet; where our public schools are adequately funded, where family budgets don't collapse from unexpected healthcare bills or high prescription drug costs; and where workers get a break while the wealthy pay their fair share.
“We congratulate House Democrats, who have gained control of their chamber for the first time in over a decade. We look forward to fighting alongside Speaker Joanna McClinton and her leadership team on the issues that matter most to working families across the Commonwealth.
“We applaud the valiant effort of Senator-elect John Fetterman as he fought through the challenges of recovering from a recent stroke. He is – and will continue to be – a champion for every day Pennsylvanians.
“And we look forward to working closely with Governor-elect Josh Shapiro, who didn’t run away from the issues that voters care most about right now, as he offered reasoned, mainstream proposals to tackle those concerns.
“From raising the minimum wage to expanding the state property tax rebate program for seniors to securing rights for workers and lowering healthcare and prescription drug costs, so many of governor-election Shapiro’s priorities he spoke about on the campaign trail line up with the issues that Better PA will be ready to fight for in 2023 and beyond.”
