STATEMENT: Better PA Celebrates Shapiro Administration's Budget Plan Supporting Pennsylvania Working Families
HARRISBURG (February 4, 2025) – Following Governor Shapiro’s 2025 budget address and unveiling of the administration’s proposal fiscal year 2025-26 budget, Better PA Executive Director, Angela Valvano, made the following statement:
"Governor Shapiro's proposed budget demonstrates a clear commitment to economic security for Pennsylvania families. The increase in minimum wage to $15/hour will not only help workers but generate an additional $100 million in annual revenue for critical infrastructure and economic development. A minimum wage increase would benefit more than just the 870,000 Pennsylvania workers who earn below $15 an hour now – local economies across the state benefit when workers have more to spend in their communities.
“The proposals by Governor Shapiro for investments in workforce development, including $2.5 million for WedNET and expanded adult literacy programs, show that Pennsylvania is serious about creating pathways to family-sustaining careers. Combined with the largest targeted tax cut for seniors in PA history and significant child care tax breaks putting $136 million back in families' pockets, this budget builds on proven success while making bold new investments in our Commonwealth's future."
